The lesser flamingo is the most iconic bird at Lake Natron. Over two million gather here to breed, drawn by the lake’s safety from predators. Its harsh, salty waters host cyanobacteria, a key food source. Chicks hatch between September and April, making Lake Natron the most important breeding site for this species in East Africa.
